PMP Exam Eligibility

Preparing for the PMP exam starts with understanding PMI’s education, experience, and training requirements.

Education and Experience

You must meet one of these pathways:

  • High school diploma, GED, or global equivalent: At least 60 months of experience leading projects.

  • Recognized associate’s degree or qualifying technical/vocational credential: At least 48 months of experience leading projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, or qualifying global equivalent: At least 36 months of experience leading projects.

  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree from a PMI GAC-accredited program: At least 24 months of experience leading projects.

Qualifying experience must have been earned in a professional setting within the 10 years before your application. Overlapping project dates count only once.

Project Management Training

PMI also requires 35 hours of qualifying project management education or training, unless you hold an active CAPM certification. Completing BytingEdge’s 36 instructional hours fulfills this training requirement.

Course Enrollment and Exam Approval

You do not need an approved PMP application before enrolling in this preparation course. Before registering, review your education and experience against PMI’s requirements. Completing the course does not replace the required project leadership experience or guarantee exam eligibility. PMI makes the final eligibility determination.

An introductory call is optional if you would like help understanding the requirements.

Review PMI’s current PMP eligibility requirements.
